Who can apply for Solar ATAP?

Start with a registered TNB account and an eligible property in Peninsular Malaysia. Account category, existing generation and any previous solar agreement affect eligibility. Tenant sub-meter accounts under a multi-tenant scheme and certain consumers who also generate electricity are excluded.

Already on NEM or SelCo? The Energy Commission guidelines allow a route involving termination of the existing contract before joining ATAP. Have your current agreement and eligibility reviewed before making a change.

What size solar system is allowed?

The connection rules provide a starting point. Roof suitability, electrical capacity and the utility’s assessment determine what can be installed at your site.

CCC means Connection Confirmation Check. Larger non-domestic installations may require a Connection Assessment Study (CAS) or Power System Study (PSS), depending on capacity and voltage. Group housing developments have separate assessment requirements.

A proposal should distinguish the panels’ kWp (DC) rating from the inverter’s kWac (AC) output. They describe different parts of the system.

How do Solar ATAP bill credits work?

Your property uses solar generation first. Eligible surplus goes to the TNB grid. When solar cannot meet your demand, you continue to import electricity.

• Domestic exports: valued at the applicable Energy Charge.
• Non-domestic exports: valued using the defined Average System Marginal Price (SMP), rather than the full retail tariff.
• Monthly settlement: eligible export units are limited to the lower of imported electricity and the Maximum Allowable Quantity (MAQ). Unused entitlement expires within that billing period.
• Other charges: ATAP credits cannot offset Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA). Other applicable tariff charges remain; a negative net bill is adjusted to zero without a cash payment.

For system planning, this means daytime self-consumption deserves attention. Ask for an estimate that separates electricity used on site from expected exports and explains the tariff assumptions.

How do you apply for Solar ATAP?

1. Review the site and account. Share recent bills, connection details and your property’s roof information.
2. Appoint an RPVSP. A SEDA Registered PV Service Provider supports the application; complete any required utility study.
3. Submit through eATAP. The provider prepares the required documents for SEDA’s online application.
4. Complete approved works and connection. Follow the required installation, testing, licensing, metering and TNB contract steps before operation.

Is there a Solar ATAP rebate in 2026?

SEDA’s SuRIA Home announcement sets out a one-time rebate of RM600/kWac, capped at RM3,000, for qualifying Malaysian domestic ATAP customers who have not previously received SolaRIS cash rebates.

The announced allocation period starts on 1 June 2026. Commissioning with TNB must be completed by 31 December 2026 or before the allocation is exhausted, whichever comes first. Eligibility, remaining funds and TNB’s application conditions must be checked; a quotation does not reserve a rebate.

The right system is not determined by roof area alone. A useful proposal connects your electricity use to a practical design and a clear installation scope.

• Panel and inverter capacities, equipment specifications and roof layout.
• Daytime consumption, expected exports and the assumptions behind any savings estimate.
• Assessment, application, installation, electrical and metering costs, with exclusions identified.
• Warranty coverage, monitoring, maintenance and the responsibilities after handover.
• Battery and backup options if you need electricity during an outage.
